Ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal, a clash broke out today in Kolkata between BJP and TMC workers outside the Chief Electoral Officer’s office. It is often said that elections in West Bengal are marked by such clashes. On Tuesday, the situation became tense outside the Chief Electoral Officer’s office.
The police had to make considerable efforts to bring the situation under control, and after some time, it was finally managed. Meanwhile, in the afternoon, Suvendu Adhikari visited the Chief Electoral Officer’s office and lodged a complaint against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of inciting unrest. Soon after he left the office, TMC workers began protesting over the alleged misuse of Form 6.
Form 6 is being used to add voters from NDA-ruled states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh to the voter list of West Bengal. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote a letter to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging that the BJP is using Form 6 to include voters from other states in West Bengal’s voter list. When the situation escalated, the police intervened to control the crowd and bring the situation under control.
On Monday, TMC National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee said that the BJP submitted 30,000 Form 6 applications in a single day and is adding residents from other states as voters in West Bengal.
The TMC said that while they were protesting in front of the Chief Electoral Officer’s office, BJP workers attacked them.
Meanwhile, the police said that the situation had become tense, but it was brought under control after some time. Additional police forces have been deployed at the Chief Electoral Officer’s office, and everything is now under control.
