The ODI series between India and England is set to begin soon, but India has already suffered a major setback. A few days after the squad for the India-England ODI series was announced, reports emerged that Virat Kohli would miss the series due to an injury. However, he is scheduled to undergo a few fitness tests before the match, after which it will be clear whether he will play or not.

India has suffered another major setback ahead of the England ODI series. Hardik Pandya has been ruled out of the entire series due to a quadriceps injury.
One big question now is: who can replace Hardik in the squad? Reports suggest that Nitish Kumar Reddy could be added to the team as Hardik's replacement. However, the BCCI has not yet made any official announcement regarding this.

Another major concern for Team India is that the 2027 World Cup is scheduled to take place next year, and Hardik Pandya is expected to be an important part of the squad. If his injuries do not heal properly or if these fitness issues continue, it could be a major setback for India's preparations for the 2027 World Cup.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia has said that the England series will be held from July 14 to July 19, during which three ODI matches will be played. He added that the squad for the series will be announced within the next three to four days.

Why has Hardik Pandya been ruled out?

The biggest question now is: how did Hardik Pandya get ruled out of the England series? Until now, reports had only suggested that Hardik might not travel to England. So, what exactly happened?

The answer is that during his rehabilitation at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, Hardik was diagnosed with a quadriceps strain and a leg strain. These two injuries emerged as fresh concerns for the all-rounder, making him unfit for 50-over cricket at the moment. As a result, he has been ruled out of the entire series.

If it is said that this problem actually started during IPL 2026, it wouldn't be wrong. Hardik Pandya missed several matches during the IPL because of injury issues. After the IPL, he was first ruled out of the Afghanistan series, and now he will not travel to England either.

There is still no clarity on when Hardik will recover from this injury. So far, the BCCI has not provided any official update regarding his return timeline.

Is Virat Kohli going to England?

Virat Kohli delivered an impressive performance in IPL 2026. In his last match, which was also the final, he scored 75 runs and helped RCB win the title for the second time. Virat was in excellent form at that time.

However, after the IPL, Team India received bad news as Virat missed the Afghanistan and England ODI series due to injury. But according to some reports, he is recovering well, and there is every possibility that he could travel to England for the ODI series.

Before that, though, his fitness will once again be assessed at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru on June 22. Only after those reports are reviewed will it be confirmed whether Virat will play in the England ODI series or not.

At present, he is working with orthopedic surgeon and BCCI consultant Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai so that Virat can recover as quickly as possible.

Who can replace Hardik Pandya?

These are the five players who could be included in India's squad for the England ODI series.

There is considerable speculation and discussion regarding who might replace Hardik, but one name stands out—Nitish Kumar Reddy. Furthermore, various reports indicate that the BCCI is grooming Nitish for the upcoming World Cup.

Shivam Dube is another player whose name is being discussed as a possible replacement. Apart from him, Riyan Parag, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar are also in contention. However, it remains to be seen who will get the ticket to England, as the BCCI has not yet made any official announcement on the matter.
