E mraan Hashmi’s new movie Awarapan 2 has been a great box office success by reaching the milestone of ₹100 crores in just a few days since its release.

The movie that reached theaters on August 14, 2026, has become commercially very successful because it appears to become the biggest commercial success story of Emraan Hashmi’s career until now.

It is quite interesting to note the success of Awarapan 2 as the first Awarapan was not considered to be a hit movie when it was released back in 2007.

However, with the passage of time, the movie became popular due to the emotional element in it, along with its music and performance of Emraan Hashmi.

Awarapan 2 Crosses the 100 Crore Barrier

Awarapan 2 has crossed the mark of ₹100 crores after registering strong performances in its first five days of release.

As per reports from various sources, the movie made about ₹22 crores in the very first day, ₹33.75 crores on Saturday and ₹26 crores on Sunday. On Monday, the movie added about ₹9.25 crores and ₹9.75 crores on Tuesday.

This brought the net India earnings of the film past the ₹100 crore barrier. Figures reported by Sacnilk later on put the net India earnings figure at roughly ₹101.28 crore in six days.

However, box office figures may vary since final figures are still being tallied.

Such fast-paced growth has made the movie's performance very special for the Hindi film industry.

Achievement of a Special Kind for Emraan Hashmi

Awarapan 2 has also become special in terms of Emraan Hashmi's own career. This has become the first film that features Hashmi as a sole lead to go past the ₹100 crore barrier in India.

Emraan Hashmi has been part of the Hindi film industry for a while now, especially the years of the 2000s and early 2010s, with movies like Murder, Jannat, Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, and the original Awarapan making him a performer known for intense romantic and dramatic performances.

The ₹100 crore barrier has thus become a commercially significant one for the actor.

Film's Strong Weekend Helped It to Fly High

The opening weekend performance of the film has been one of the key reasons for its swift success. The opening weekend of Awarapan 2 was strong with a good opening on Friday followed by a massive boost in its collections on Saturday and then good collections on Sunday.

The jump on Saturday was extremely important for the film.

The earning of the film on the second day amounted to ₹33.75 crore, much better than the amount earned on the first day, which was ₹22 crore, implying that the movie managed to attract a larger audience other than the ones who watched the film during the opening weekend.

The successful opening weekend of the film has made it stay afloat above ₹100 crore mark despite the drop seen after the release on weekdays.

Nostalgia for the Original Awarapan

The nostalgia of the original Awarapan has been among the main reasons for the success of the sequel.

Released in 2007, the original Awarapan could not be termed a box office success when released; however, the popularity gained by the movie after release has been huge.

This has made the sequel gain from an existing connection. The fans of the original movie have shown interest in watching the continuation of the movie, especially since Emraan Hashmi returns in the film franchise.

The success shows how old movies become commercially valuable once again thanks to their characters and songs that keep being remembered by people.

Music and Nostalgic Audience Make it Special

The music is an inseparable part of the Awarapan franchise. Songs from the original version have been widely popular after its release and made a musical legacy of Emraan Hashmi.

Awarapan 2 also utilized the familiarity of the franchise and its music to connect to its audience. According to reports, the film has used remixes of songs related to the original film to add the nostalgic aspect to the story.

For a franchise that returns almost two decades after the first release, it can be helpful since it helps introduce new plot through something familiar to people.

A Successful Film Amid Competitions

Awarapan 2 has succeeded in becoming successful in spite of competitions with other movies in the theaters.

The movie was shown along with Batwara 1947, and there were other Hollywood releases like Spider-Man: Brand New Day competing for the viewership. Even then, the movie retained its strength in the opening period.

Thus, it can be said that the audiences had the willingness to go for the Emraan Hashmi starrer action thriller movie in spite of other movies being present in the theater.

The Production Cost of the Film and Its Commercial Success

When compared with the cost of production, the commercial success becomes even more important. The production cost of the movie is reported by the Economic Times as about ₹45 crore.

In six days after India release, the India net collection of the movie crossed ₹100 crore, making the movie generate twice its production cost in terms of domestic net theatrical collections.

But it should be noted that box office collection cannot always be considered as the profit of the movie. There are many factors such as theaters, distributors, taxes, marketing and others that influence the profit gained.

Worldwide Performance Adds to the Success

The movie has also done well in terms of performance overseas. It was revealed that Awarapan 2 managed to collect over ₹100 crore within its first weekend of release with its global collection amounting to more than ₹110 crore within its third day of release.

This means that the movie enjoys another commercial advantage while it keeps on running at theatres.

In view of the fact that the film had shown very good performance in the domestic market, it is possible that its global performance might be further enhanced over the coming days.

What the Success Means for Emraan Hashmi

A successful outcome of Awarapan 2 will have huge importance for Emraan Hashmi’s career, since after having been away from a ₹100 crore movie for several years as a solo actor, he has finally managed to reach the landmark with a series, that has long been connected to his earlier career.

Such an outcome will also highlight the potential commercial value of sequel movies based on nostalgia. Instead of always focusing on creating new franchises, filmmakers can choose already known titles with solid audience recognition.

For Hashmi, Awarapan 2 is yet another big box office success, which can create new expectations of him.

Summary

Awarapan 2 has become a major blockbuster movie, earning over ₹100 crore in India just within the first few days of release and making Emraan Hashmi debut with a ₹100 crore solo-lead movie.

There have been several reasons behind the success of the film, which range from popularity of the previous version, emotional attachment of the movie series, comeback of Emraan Hashmi, positive audience reactions, and a good opening weekend.

The success of Awarapan 2 is also indicated by the performance of the film against the production budget of about ₹45 crore.

The most significant thing about the film is that Awarapan 2 is an example of how a movie launched almost after two decades of its predecessor can succeed when it has some emotional identity.

Now that the ₹100 crore figure has already been crossed, the film has got an option of doing more business in theaters.
