ndia and Afghanistan are playing at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, New Chandigarh.
Afghanistan won the toss and decided to bowl first. Team India got off to a strong start with the bat and is performing well in the match.
On the first day of the match, India scored 368 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 85 overs.
The three dismissed players were:
- Yashasvi Jaiswal – 24 runs off 32 balls, including 5 fours
- KL Rahul – 100 runs off 165 balls, including 11 fours
- Sai Sudharsan – 81 runs off 104 balls, including 13 fours
All three players were dismissed on the first day of the match.
Currently, Shubman Gill (c) is batting on 103 runs off 143 balls, while Rishabh Pant is supporting him with 50 runs off 70 balls. Both players are currently at the crease.
Shubman Gill (c) has so far hit 11 fours and 1 six in his innings, and this was Shubman Gill’s 11th Test century.
Rishabh Pant has so far hit 2 fours and 3 sixes in his innings.
Now the remaining players yet to bat for Team India are Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Manav Suthar, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna.
India’s first wicket fell in the form of Yashasvi Jaiswal at 11.6 overs, when the team score was 41 runs.
The second wicket fell in the form of Sai Sudharsan when India’s score was 180 runs in 42.4 overs.
The third wicket fell in the form of KL Rahul when India’s score was 247 runs at 60.2 overs.
The match started at 9:30 AM, with lunch taken from 11:30 AM to 12:10 PM, a tea break from 2:10 PM to 2:30 PM, and the day’s play ending at 4:30 PM.
The match is scheduled to be played over five days, from 6th June to 10th June 2026.
On the first day of the match, India hit a total of 42 fours and 4 sixes.
India and Afghanistan have played only one Test match so far. The first match was played in June 2018 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, which India won within two days.
And the second Test match is currently ongoing in Chandigarh.

In this match, Afghanistan’s bowling was not very effective on the first day, as they managed to take only 3 wickets. Most of their bowlers were conceding a lot of runs throughout the innings.
The most expensive bowler was Nangeyalia Kharote, who conceded 95 runs in 20 overs without taking any wicket.
Ziaur Rahman gave away 61 runs in 15 overs and also took 1 wicket.
Azmatullah Omarzai gave away 42 runs in 14 overs and did not take any wicket.
Mohammad Saleem gave away 67 runs in 13 overs and took 2 wickets.
Abdul Malik gave away 67 runs in 6 overs and did not take any wicket.
Hashmatullah Shahidi gave away 61 runs in 17 overs and did not take any wickets.
