India's largest airline, IndiGo, has increased the fuel surcharge on all its domestic and international flights, thereby placing the burden of rising costs on the common man once again. Before this, the airline had also raised the fuel surcharge on March 14.

The company said that the International Air Transport Association has reported a 130 percent increase in jet fuel prices, due to which a decision has been taken to increase the fuel surcharge on all domestic and international flights.

With the new fuel surcharge, the revised ticket prices will come into effect from 12:00 midnight on April 2. Ticket prices for domestic flights may increase by up to ₹950, while international flight tickets may become costlier by up to ₹10,000.

New Fuel Charges of IndiGo:

Domestic Flights:
  • For flights up to 500 km, an additional charge of ₹275 will be applied
  • For distances above 2,000 km, an additional charge of up to ₹950 will be added to the ticket fare.
  • For some mid-range distances, an additional charge of ₹400, ₹600, or up to ₹800 will be levied on the ticket.
International Flights:
  • For short distances, an additional charge of ₹900 will be applied to the ticket.
  • For long-distance flights to the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe, an additional charge of up to ₹10,000 may be added to the ticket price.
  • On routes to the Middle East, the company may charge up to ₹3,000 extra on ticket prices.
  • For routes to Southeast Asia and China, the company may charge an additional ₹3,000 to ₹5,000 on ticket prices.
  • For routes to Africa, the company may charge an additional ₹5,000 on ticket prices.
“However, in the end, the company said that due to the increase in fuel surcharges, it had to raise ticket prices. The main question now is: if the fuel surcharge decreases in the future, will the company reduce ticket prices accordingly?”
