In the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, a major piece of news is coming out saying that Iran has attacked the American company Amazon’s data center in Bahrain, and this attack happened in Bahrain, but an official report has not come yet, although it has been confirmed that Iran attacked Amazon’s data center.

The report says that the company’s data centers were not directly attacked, but there were drone attacks around the data centers. In a post on X from Bahrain, information about this attack was shared, but the Amazon company name was not mentioned in the post. You can see this X post at the very end of the article.

Iran has said that in the ongoing Middle East conflict, it will attack American companies’ data centers, and there is a list of 18 companies that Iran could attack.

This is the list of the 18 companies that Iran could attack at any time.

Cisco, HP (Hewlett-Packard), Intel, Oracle, Microsoft, Apple, Google
Meta (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp), IBM, Dell, Nvidia, Palantir, JPMorgan Chase, Tesla
General Electric (GE), Boeing, Spire Solutions, G42 (UAE-based AI firm)

Why an attack on a data center can be dangerous.

When we talk about a data center, it’s not about a specific company— a data center holds millions of people’s data, including data from many companies. Reports are saying that the attack in Bahrain that Iran carried out was on an AWS data center, and if we talk about AWS, it is one of the world’s largest cloud data centers.

If Iran were to launch an attack on AWS, it would not be limited solely to Amazon's data centers, as AWS services are utilized by numerous countries, including India. The impact on India, however, would not be particularly severe, given that AWS data centers in the country are distributed across various regions. In India, individuals and companies utilize AWS services based on their specific geographic regions; consequently, if an attack were to strike an AWS data center in Bahrain, only the services hosted at that specific location would be disrupted.

It isn’t clear yet how many services were running on the data center in Bahrain that Iran attacked, but it is clear that the attack would have had the biggest impact on AWS.

Iran has said that it will attack American companies that operate data, flight, or digital infrastructure in the Middle East.

American President Donald Trump has said that if Iran attacks an American company, there will be a very strong and strict response, which will include both military action and economic measures.

What if Google or Apple’s data centers are attacked?

If Iran were to attack Google’s data centers, this attack would be felt by the whole world because many Google servers could go down, like Gmail, YouTube, Google Maps, Play Services, etc., and millions of people use these products.

Apple’s iCloud service could also go down.
