. D. Satheesan was sworn in as the chief minister of Kerala today, and 20 other MLAs also took an oath as ministers. However, no departments have been assigned yet, and it is still unclear who will get which portfolio.
The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Central Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.
The oath-taking ceremony began at 10 AM.
The Congress party has retained the posts of Assembly Speaker and Deputy Speaker. Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan has been appointed as the Assembly Speaker, while Shanimol Usman has been made the Deputy Speaker.
Several senior Congress leaders attended the oath-taking ceremony, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Chief Ministers from states governed by the Congress party were also present at the event.
V. D. Satheesan has been elected as an MLA six times and also served as the leader of the opposition from 2021 to 2025.
V. D. Satheesan first won an election in 2001, and since then, he has been continuously contesting and winning from the Paravur Assembly constituency.
Among the elections held in five states, the only positive news for the Congress party came from Kerala.
In the Kerala elections, the UDF alliance won 102 out of 140 seats, with the Congress emerging as the largest party in the coalition. Out of the 102 seats won by the UDF, the Congress secured 66 seats.
After Congress leader V. D. Satheesan took the oath as the Chief Minister of Kerala, Narendra Modi congratulated him on becoming the Chief Minister.
He wrote, “The Central Government assures the new government of Kerala that every possible support will be provided to fulfill the expectations of the people.”

Along with Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan, 20 cabinet ministers also took the oath of secrecy.
Among them, the Indian National Congress has 11 ministers, and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has 5 ministers, while other alliance partners have 4 ministers.
The Indian National Congress ministers include Ramesh Chennithala, Sunny Joseph, K. Muraleedharan, A. P. Anil Kumar, P. C. Vishnunath, Rosy M. John, Bindu Krishna, M. Liju, T. Siddique, K. A. Tulasi, and O. J. Janish.
The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) ministers include P. K. Kunhalikutty, N. Shamsudheen, K. M. Shaji, P. K. Basheer, and V. E. Abdul Gafoor.
Other alliance partners with ministerial positions include Mons Joseph from Kerala Congress (Joseph), Shibu Baby John from the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), Anoop Jacob from Kerala Congress (Jacob), and C. P. John from the Communist Marxist Party (CMP).
