few days have passed since the elections in Tamil Nadu, but the formation of the government is still not confirmed. In this election, TVK emerged as the largest party with 108 seats, but a majority requires 118 seats.
However, the Congress had already extended its support to TVK earlier. In this election, Congress won 5 seats, but even with TVK’s 108 seats and Congress support, they were still unable to reach the majority mark. Later, the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) also extended their support to TVK for the formation of the government.
Seats of TVK, Congress, CPI, and CPM are added together; they still reach only 116 MLAs in support.
In the 234-seat Tamil Nadu Assembly election, TVK has won 108 seats. However, Vijay contested from two constituencies and won both, so he will need to resign from one seat. After that, TVK’s strength will be reduced to 107 seats.
In that situation, with 233 effective seats, a majority would require the support of 117 members.
At present, TVK has the support of 116 MLAs. However, they still need 2 more seats to reach the majority mark. In this situation, TVK has sought support from VCK, which holds 2 seats.
According to several reports, VCK may extend its support to TVK in this election. VCK currently holds 2 seats.
CPM leader K. Balakrishnan said that the mandate given to TVK by the people of Tamil Nadu should be respected.
CPM leader K. Balakrishnan, while speaking to reporters, said:
“Even though they have not secured a majority, TVK is the largest party. We do not want President’s Rule or governance through the Governor in Tamil Nadu. At this time, there is a need for a government that is elected by the people. In such a situation, there is no other option except to support TVK. That is why we have taken this decision.”
When asked in a report that they had contested the election along with DMK, and whether any discussion took place with DMK regarding supporting TVK, he said:
“Every party has the right to take its own decision. We have to make important decisions based on an assessment of the current political situation. On that basis, we have taken this important decision. For this, the consent of DMK or any allied party is not necessary. The most important thing is that a people’s government should be formed.”
CPI also announced its support for TVK. When speaking to reporters, CPI leader D. Raja said:
“Our party’s Tamil Nadu unit, on the advice of the national leadership, has decided that we will support TVK.
We have also requested the governor to invite the leader of the largest party in the state to form the government.”
Vijay does not receive an invitation from the governor, then the Tamil Nadu Congress has protested and said that Vijay should be invited to form the government.
Stalin posted that he has demanded that the process of forming the government should be started as soon as possible.

“The results of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections have been declared and the Election Commission has released the list of elected MLAs chosen by the people.
The current Assembly has already been dissolved, and in this regard, His Excellency the Governor has issued a notification.
In such a situation, for the elected MLAs to take oath and to carry forward the welfare work of the state, the formation of a new government is not only a matter of time but also the most important responsibility of democracy.
In this context, on behalf of the DMK, I request His Excellency the Governor to immediately initiate the process of forming the new government as per the Constitution, in order to avoid any delay in government formation.
