T he results for all 294 seats in West Bengal have been declared, and the BJP has secured a strong victory. It is a very significant day for the party, as it has never formed a government in West Bengal before or won a major election in the state. This victory is especially important for the BJP because one of its key ideological founders, Syama Prasad Mukherjee, was from Bengal, making the state particularly significant for the party.

Meanwhile, the TMC’s 15-year rule has come to an end. Mamata Banerjee served as Chief Minister of West Bengal for 15 years, and today her party has suffered a major defeat.

After 35 years of rule by previous governments, the TMC first came to power in West Bengal in 2011, and since then, Mamata Banerjee has been the chief minister. Over the past 15 years, the party has faced criticism from the opposition over law and order and allegations of political violence during elections. Overall, critics have claimed that the TMC maintained its rule through pressure and intimidation, and today’s result reflects a major electoral setback for the party.

Which party has won how many seats?

No one expected that the BJP would win so many seats in this election or that the TMC would perform this poorly.

In this election, the BJP has broken records, registering a decisive victory with 208 seats. On the other hand, the TMC may not have expected such a major setback, winning only 79 seats this time. As for the Left Front, it’s hard to believe this is the same party that ruled West Bengal for 35 years, as it has been reduced to just 2 seats. Similarly, the country’s oldest party, Congress, has managed to win only 2 seats, while others have secured 2 seats.

  • BJP – 208 seats
  • TMC (AITC) – 79 seats
  • Congress (INC) – 2 seats
  • Left Front – 2 seats
  • Others – 2 seats

What did Prime Minister Modi say after the victory?

After the victory, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on the X platform that …

The Lotus blooms in West Bengal!

The 2026 West Bengal Assembly Elections will be remembered forever. People's power has prevailed and BJP's politics of good governance has triumphed. I bow to each and every person of West Bengal.

The people have given a spectacular mandate to BJP and I assure them that our Party will do everything possible to fulfil the dreams and aspirations of the people of West Bengal. We will provide a Government that ensures opportunity and dignity to all sections of society.
What did the country’s Home Minister say?

After the victory, Home Minister Amit Shah said on the X platform that …

Countless salutations to the people of Bengal. 🙏

This massive mandate is a strong response from the people of Bengal to fear, appeasement, and those who protect infiltrators.

This is a victory of ‘trust’ in Shri @narendramodi ji over TMC’s 'fear.'

For every BJP worker like me, this is a moment of pride that from the origin of Maa Ganga in Gangotri to Gangasagar, today the BJP’s saffron flag is flying proudly everywhere.
